About

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are trained community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused and/or neglected children and teens. CASA volunteers monitor the child's situation while they are in foster care to make sure they are safe and to ensure their psychological, physical, educational, and other needs are met. Empowered directly by the courts, these volunteers make recommendations and offer judges the critical information they need to ensure each child's rights and needs are being attended to while in foster care. For many children, a CASA volunteer is the only constant adult presence in their life as they move through the labyrinth of the child welfare system. When a CASA volunteer accepts a case, they must agree to stay with it until the child has a safe, permanent home. This allows the volunteer to gain a depth and breadth of information other parties may not have. The Kentucky CASA Network is a member-based association, providing resources, technical assistance, and advocating on behalf of CASA programs across the state.
