Description
This event is offered by our partner in another state. Please double-check times and time zones prior to registering.
The growth and effectiveness of a nonprofit often hinges on a strong board that understands and operates within clearly defined roles. Without proper training, well-intentioned boards can stray into areas outside of their scope, resulting in micromanagement, poor engagement, and dysfunctional governance.
Using stories and real-life examples, this session examines the legal and core responsibilities of effective boards and how they use their time and talent to help organizations accomplish their mission. It includes an overview of the Lifecycle of Nonprofit Organizations, the three legal and eight core responsibilities of serving (including board recruitment and onboarding, developing policies and procedures, committee development, governance vs. management, and how to handle poor performers).
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify the legal and core responsibilities of board service.
- Differentiate between governance and management.
- Demonstrate strong risk management through policies and procedures.
- Describe the major steps involved in developing the board structure.
