Alternative Angles for the DEI Space: From Burnout to Accountability
Thursday, December 7, 2023 (10:00 AM - 5:00 PM) (EST)
Description
This day-long, four-hour training will take a closer look at common Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) challenges and offer four fresh perspectives on addressing them through action. From burnout to accountability, each 60-minute session will invite participants into deep dives rich with frameworks, application tips and tools designed to disrupt social norms and create conditions for change.
Participants will engage with the following learning sessions:
- Wellness and Resiliency: Examine what dimensions of wellness look like in chronically high-burnout high-turnover work like DEIJ. The purpose of this session is to move beyond simply acknowledging the drain of the work and instead focus on strategies and behaviors that address the toll.
- Alternative Training: When not anchored to a core need, priority, or vision, DEIJ training efforts can do more harm than good. This session will focus on alternative approaches to teach, learn, and influence change on the job where equity is an everyday way of life one can thoughtfully and effectively infuse throughout the workplace, rather than an add-on or standalone “thing” that one either does or doesn’t understand.
- Coalition Building: Limited resources and the need for affinity spaces creates even more urgency for coalition building now. In this session participants will be invited to concentrate their energy towards strategic relationships—how to nurture and sustain them in the service of collective solution-making.
- Operationalizing Accountability: In this session participants will talk about creative mechanics for how to dial in and implement DEIJ efforts. This session will focus on finding root causes and creative solutions through a process of analysis.
Each session will have a takeaway tool that combined will be designed to comprise a toolkit.
Spotlights are day-long virtual trainings, offering four to five 60-minute sessions, each exploring a different aspect of a specific topic. Each session will be led by experienced nonprofit leaders and subject-matter experts. Spotlights are designed to offer practical information that can be applied immediately, along with larger-picture questions and possibilities to consider for the long-term.
We know it’s difficult to carve out large chunks of time in your day to attend trainings, so the sessions are spread out over a full day, with breaks in between.
The Spotlight will be hosted by Ashley Oolman of Allied Folk, LLC.
