About

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass’ mission is to help all children achieve their potential by building and supporting one-to-one relationships that ignite the biggest possible futures for youth.

Since 1957 our agency has served a vulnerable population of children who are dealing with adverse childhood experiences. A sizable percentage of the children we serve reside in homes that are living at or below the federal poverty level, are housing insecure, are from marginalized communities, they have been exposed to domestic violence, and have experienced other forms of trauma.

We make meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across Central Kentucky. The long-term goals for the child include avoiding risky behaviors, better relationships with peers and authority figures, increased scholastic competency, improved school attendance, and higher vocational and educational expectations.
